IV sedation, sometimes referred to as Twilight Sedation, does not require hospitalization and allows a patient to fall asleep quickly and wake up quickly compared to general anesthesia.

Sedation dentistry is applicable in a wide range of situations including dental examinations with x-rays and treatment under sedation. Treatment completed under sedation include extractions, fillings, cleaning and denture appointments.

As with any medication and procedure, side effects are possible once the sedative wears off. However, most patients feel normal within a short period of time of waking up.

The most common side effects (grogginess, dry mouth, nausea, headaches) are minor and typically wear off within an hour or so.
